Crudwell 24-Hour Ride Report - 21st–22nd June 2025
The Crudwell 24-hour ride was a quintessentially English event—an endurance challenge wrapped in community spirit. Though not a race, the ride tested stamina and teamwork as teams of cyclists looped a 7-mile circuit continuously for 24 hours. The Westbury Wheelers team, consisting of 13 riders, completed 62 laps, totalling 434 miles, with an average pace of 2.6 laps per hour and claimed the trophy for most laps completed. Westbury Wheelers Newbury Bank Holiday Weekender 2024
On Sunday 25th of August, at 9:00 AM, twelve Westbury Wheelers embarked on this year's pilgrimage to Newbury, departing from the Marketplace. The route is approximately 50 miles there and 50 miles back and relatively flat for the most part. The trip was organised by by Westbury Wheeler Sean Price, a great concept, taking advantage of good value accommodation, the long weekend, and the likelihood of warm weather afforded by the late August bank holiday. Westbury Wheelers Isle of Wight Trip 2024
Westbury Wheelers Isle of Wight Trip 2024 The decision to offer a higher standard (than normal) accommodation proved popular and made the booking quite easy. The manor house near Yarmouth certainly looked very nice and with it’s rustic historical appearance it felt like we were going to stay in a National Trust property. With 10 bedrooms we had quality accommodation at very reasonable cost for such a beautiful place. Within days all the payments were made and the property b

Since 1983 - Thirty Years of Sweat & Gears
By John Weaire & Malcolm Bird (Founder Members) with assistance from sundry others. “Thirty Years Of Sweat & Gears” the sweatshirt logo entry that did not make it to the Wheelers’ competition short-list in 2013 but seems to be the best possible title for this brief history of the club in this its 30 th year . So, 1983 – less traffic and better road manners back then gave us more pleasant cycling conditions than those we endure today. Up the road I see a white head bobbing sl

Westbury Wheelers on Tour – Newbury Trip 2023
On Bank Holiday August Sunday at 9am we met in the Town Hall Square. There were loads of Wheelers there – us lot going on the trip and all the other rides meeting as well. Us ‘Newbury Trippers’ lined up with our shiny bikes and photos were taken. We then split into 2 groups and off we set. In my group Sean and John took turns in leading; they were great, always checking to make sure the group was together and adjusting the speed as necessary. – thank you both. Our first stop

Rainbow Ride – 100 – 2023
Three groups set off from the Market Place on the 20th Aug, twenty-nine riders in all. There was a Purple group, two Yellow groups and a Blue group. The Purples split into two after a short time with a faster group forging on ahead to the coffee stop at the halfway point. The others soon arrived there too. The Blues didn't have a cafe stop on the way but did have 5 minutes at the side of the road, while two popped into a cafe for a comfort break. That's where we picked up ano

Westbury Wheelers Hardriders TT – 2023
What a beautiful morning, in between two wet and miserable spring days. There were 40 riders entered to race the challenging U33 course this year, representing 15 different clubs. They were given a warm welcome at our new HQ and briefed on road conditions for the day before they set off to warm up. Marshalls drifted off to their locations, and all was ready. First rider off at 10:05, followed by the rest at 1-minute intervals. These riders included 9 strong women (the highest

Fletcher Flapjack – 6th March 2022
Chippenham Wheelers Audax Great turnout for a cold winters’s day! Nice that we all rode together and no mechanicals. Great refreshments en route and I’m sure we all came back heavier as promised!
